District Visits with Senators in LA

Senator Durazo Tour

Over the last two weeks, CalCCI welcomed some of our state’s leaders for meetings with Southern California CDFIs that are lending, building, and investing in communities too often overlooked by traditional finance.

In Senate District 20, we were honored to join Senator Caroline Menjivar for a site tour and conversation hosted by Holos Communities, with participation from Low Income Investment Fund, CSH Housing Solutions, PCR Business Finance, AltCap California, Genesis LA and CalCCI’s own policy advocate, Brian Augusta. We walked through a supportive housing project and heard directly from small businesses and nonprofits strengthening the San Fernando Valley.

In Senate District 26, Senator Maria Elena Durazo and Senator Anna Caballero met with CalCCI members at Little Tokyo Service Center, joined by Inclusive Action for the City, Genesis LA, Vermont Slauson Economic Development Corporation (VSEDC), AmPac Business Capital, AltCap California, CDC Small Business Finance and Neighborhood Housing Services. The conversation centered on how community-rooted lending supports small business resilience and meets urgent housing needs.

These visits underscore a simple truth: CDFIs are critical economic infrastructure for California, financing affordable housing, care providers, and local entrepreneurs. Their impact is visible in every neighborhood we visited and in the lives of the people these investments touch.

Thank you to Senators Menjivar, Durazo, and Caballero for taking the time to see firsthand how community development finance works, and why continued state partnership matters. We look forward to working together to advance equitable investment across Southern California.
